3GSM aka MWC (Mobile World Congress) is one of those shows that lives up to its reputation. The crowds that descend upon MWC have always been made up of the leaders in the mobile technology community.

I confess this being my third 3GSM in Barcelona, I found myself looking for reasons not to attend despite the quality of show. In short the hotels are inferior, I have to worry about the safety of my staff, and the infrastructure cannot withstand the 50,000 plus conference attendees (if you have been to CES you get the picture – except throw in some random muggings and theft).

I was stumped when someone in my office asked me innocently why MWC isn’t held in Asia since it has the largest number of mobile users. I know the history behind the why, yet the question has merit. Perhaps next year in Hong Kong? Actually, I’d vote for any major city in Europe that has direct flights and quality hotels.

Nevertheless, as long as MWC resides in Barcelona I will be there and I look forward to seeing you there too - just remember to pack light and leave your valuables at home.

NRF is one of those shows where you can feel business-taking place. The floor is humming with vendors, integrators and customers – not tire kickers. Every big name retailer has representation and is looking for the best way to get their products into the hands of consumers. Like the financial trading CIOs that look to shave a nano-second off of any delay in receiving information – the CIOs of retail aspire to increase their margins even if by a fraction of cent.

We are still catching our breaths after another 24 hour a day CES. As always there were several great events among them CES Unveiled, Digital Experience and Show Stoppers. Our clients won several prestigious awards and found themselves the focus of numerous video and podcasts.
