AMR Research predicts that between 2005 and 2009, companies will spend more than $80 billion on compliance-related work to address various statutes. “SOX is only one of myriad compliance requirements that companies face across the globe,” said AMR analyst John Hagerty. AMR Research’s survey of more than 250 companies indicates that SOX is just the beginning; in 2005 alone, firms expect to spend $15.5 billion on a wide range of compliance programs. A survey of 400 data managers by Evans Data finds that at least half report that the recent spate of regulations has changed their development priorities. For example, 50 percent of data managers say they’re paying greater attention to data security matters. Another 44 percent report they are reengineering applications, while 43 percent have had to increase their data reporting capabilities. Another 42 percent have also been charged with building and maintaining additional databases for information coming out of regulation-compliance software.
