A webcast is a media file distributed over the Internet using streaming media technology. A webcast may either be distributed live or on demand. Essentially, webcasting is “broadcasting” over the Internet. For that reason the generally accepted use of the term webcast is the “transmission of linear audio or video content over the Internet”. Keep in mind that a webcast makes use of streaming media technology to take a single content source and distribute it to many simultaneous listeners/viewers. Bear in mind that the majority of businesses, if not more, worldwide are entering the World Wide Web to exploit this fastest growing medium. Naturally they are turning to webcasting services. This very technology has the inherent capacity to save time and money on business travel while enabling face-to-face meetings to occur over the Web. In addition the technology can be used amply to provide training and present other educational materials in a clear and concise way online. This is indeed the source of entertainment and serves the purpose as well.
