Surprising Growth In 2Q PC Chip Shipments, International Data Says

Shipments of semiconductors used in personal computers rose in the second quarter, an unusual trend in what is typically the slowest period of the year, according to International Data Corp.  Worldwide shipments grew 3.1% from the first quarter, and 16.1% from the year- earlier period, IDC said.

Analyst Shane Rau attributed the rise to strong demand for notebook computers and Intel Corp.’s (INTC) “very aggressive push” in the personal-computer chip market.
