Increased global deployments of WiMAX technology has lead to an 85 percent increase in subscribers and a corresponding growth in service revenue according to research firm Maravedis (Montreal, Canada) in the first issue of a planned quarterly newsletter tracking the broadband wireless access and WiMax sectors.
Planned as an addendum to Maravedis’ WiMAXCounts operator tracking service that was announced earlier this month, the first newsletter estimates that 52 percent of the deployments still used proprietary equipment, 36 percent the 802.16-2004 standard, and just 12 percent the applied wave 1 802.16-2005 mobile WiMax standard.
