Many organisations have successfully completed small-scale SOA pilot projects, but these have highlighted a number of business management challenges that must be addressed before wider-scale adoption can be started, said analyst IDC.
Complexities surrounding the ability to map business processes, where to invest in SOA (service orientated architecture) for maximum ROI, and how to translate the benefits of SOA from technical to business language remain prevalent, said the analyst.
Well-managed SOA deployment drives cost savings, but the biggest benefit of SOA is the flexibility and agility to respond rapidly to changes in the business environment. An holistic view of the business ecosystem is essential, but even today too many organisations are struggling to implement SOA across silos, as they are following long-established processes and patterns of behaviour, said IDC
