German hacker claims to have broken GSM security encryption

Despite the GSM Association’s claims, other industry experts like Stan Schatt, a security analyst with ABI Research, agree that firms should take extra steps to secure their mobile phone calls “within the next six months.” According to the piece, “most network operators have not yet invested [the time and money required] to make the security upgrade,” to the new 128-bit A5/1 encryption algorithm, which is still considered relatively secure.
