Bridging the Gender Digital Divide in Africa…

The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) based in New York has established in, 2002, a Digital Diaspora Initiative designed to take place in eight African countries. The Programme “Bridging the Gender Digital Divide in Africa through Strategic Partnerships” is being implemented under this initiative. In Rwanda, the programme activities are focused on promoting women’s access to ICT for information and entrepreneurship.

In the time period between March 2003 and July 2004, approximately 21 women received training in a number of areas such as basic IT training; e-commerce, and MIS or database development.
