Solar energy led all renewable sectors for venture capital investment last year, cornering 21 percent of total green technology investment. Green transportation followed closely with 20 percent while energy efficiency had an 18 percent share. Trailing were biofuels at 10 percent, smart grid at 7 percent and water at 2 percent.
Transportation came in the next strongest performer with $767 million in 46 deals, followed by energy efficiency with $691 million in 75 deals.
